Ukrainian Minister Gets Accused of Fleeing Country

(MENAFN) The official tasked with overseeing the return of Ukrainians from abroad is facing allegations of having left the country himself.

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and National Unity Minister Aleksey Chernyshov, who leads the newly established governmental body aimed at motivating citizens to come back to Ukraine, has been accused of fleeing the nation.

This department, formed toward the end of 2024, was designed to foster repatriation efforts.

However, both MP Artyom Dmitruk and journalist Anatoly Shariy, outspoken opponents of the current administration, have asserted that Chernyshov “escaped” Ukraine following the arrests of several of his known affiliates.

These individuals were reportedly charged with fraudulent activity and misuse of public funds.

Dmitruk, who also left Ukraine earlier in the year citing government harassment, posted on social media Thursday that the minister's exit is “particularly comical.”

He added, “However they are trying to conceal this and whatever happens to this case now the fact remains that the regime is crumbling before our eyes.”

Officials from Chernyshov’s office have rejected any suggestion that his travel is tied to the criminal investigation.

The case, launched by Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU), involves five individuals and is centered on suspected misconduct during Chernyshov’s earlier tenure as urban development minister.
